Ways to Keep a Healthy Lifestyle Despite a Busy Schedule

Being busy today is a new trend that takes a toll on more than just your stress levels. It eats away at your free time and makes you forget your No. 1 priority — taking care of yourself. This doesn’t happen consciously, but by the time you notice, you are either too swamped to change anything or think there may come a moment to stop and reflect.

The truth is that it’s always a good time to begin living a healthy lifestyle and it’s possible to do it even with a busy schedule. Here are some ideas to get you going in the right direction.

Move your body every day

Physical activity is important for both body and mind, but unfortunately, it’s among the first things to be sacrificed because of the busy schedule. This is not hard to remedy since you don’t have to hit the gym to have your share of movement every day. Simple 20-minute yoga in the morning or walking to work can get the blood flowing and keep those muscles active.

Come the weekend, take a trip outside the city and go on a hike in nature or go swimming in the lake, or sea if you are lucky to live near one. Gardening is considered a moderate exercise as well and it’s a great way to spend some quality time with your kids tending plants and growing veggies.

Surround yourself with joy

Life is made of little things that easily get neglected or unnoticed. Instead of focusing on the big picture, try to include as much fun in your life as you can. For example, dedicate some time to reading a book, calling a friend, or taking a walk in the park covered in autumn leaves. Don’t rely on social media to keep your friendships going, but rather designate one day a week to meet up with your besties.

Think about what brings you joy and do it. Adopting this as your healthy lifestyle choice is also going to help your productivity and give you more energy to tackle your busy schedule.

Change your dietary habits

Changing a diet is not only about losing weight but about living a healthy lifestyle. Some foods can make you feel better, improve your mood, and make sure you get all the necessary nutrients to function properly. Forget all about greasy takeout full of saturated fats and sugars, and opt for healthy solutions with an abundance of veggies, complex carbs, and proteins.

There are lots of recipes online to make healthy and easy meals in less than 30 minutes, you can take to work and store in the fridge to eat for a couple of days. Also, remember to never skip breakfast since it will give you that much-needed boost to be productive and energized in the morning. If you don’t have time to make blueberry pancakes, prepare a delicious smoothie and have it on your way to work.

Keep the water bottle close

Water is essential for your organs to work properly, skincare, and to stay focused during the day. If you don’t drink at least eight glasses of this miracle liquid, you can dehydrate, feel fatigued, and even end up in the hospital.

The easiest way to make sure you properly hydrate is to have a water bottle with you at all times. Some stylish bottles on the market will make a great accessory besides helping you stay healthy. Since water is tasteless, make it interesting and healthier by adding some fruit and veggie slices, like cucumber, lemon, or grapefruit.

Amp up your hygiene

A busy schedule often makes you sacrifice little things that can cost you greatly in the long run. This is especially reflected in your hygiene habits that you may rush or skip since you don’t have the time. For example, installing a smart toilet can help you maintain the hygiene of your nether regions, especially during those days of the month.

Putting on sunscreen before you go out may protect your skin from premature aging caused by the sun and some skin conditions, like hyperpigmentation. Always choose natural fabrics over synthetics for your clothes, to prevent unpleasant odors and rashes when you sweat. If you have to wear makeup all day, choose products appropriate for your skin type and with ingredients that will keep your skin hydrated and irritation-free.

Rest, rest, and rest

You probably know how much having 6–8 hours of sleep every night is important for the body and mind to regenerate and recharge. This is not a myth and gifting yourself this rest can make you better at your job, happier, and healthier. Besides sleep, always find time to take a break from work and other things that make your life stressful.

It’s okay to indulge in a spa treatment, getaway weekend, or turn off your phone. Escaping the stressors in any way you can, even for a little while, could be just the empowerment you need to have a healthy lifestyle.

Living a healthy lifestyle is easier than you may think. It’s about setting and rearranging your priorities so you can dedicate yourself to the things that matter. A busy schedule is not about being active, but overwhelming yourself with responsibilities that may not be that important to sacrifice your health. So, take a step back, make a plan, and start living your best life even with a full calendar.
