HOW TO BLOG AND DRIVE TRAFFIC ONLINE

In this day and age, we should feel blessed and grateful that we’re living in these times. The information is plenty to be found, there are tons of people found online and the internet has become so inexpensive to afford. It is truly amazing times we are living in. We should all be using such accessibility to our maximum advantage. This is especially true for those who are business owners.

Gone are the days when owning a business used to carry a lot of overhead costs especially when it came to having an online presence and putting in a ton of money towards marketing efforts. Now, things are readily available online and they don’t have any excuse whatsoever to not take the opportunity up to their advantage and benefit.

First off, having a website is so important. We’ll get to that a bit later in this article. Blogging is one of the most effective ways to getting visibility and traffic to your website. Today, there’s just so much clutter online and one of the ways to cut through this noise is to have an excellent blog that people will love to flock to. However, it does take time and efforts and a lot of patience and dedication to growing one’s blog. But it is important to understand why one should blog after-all.

People blog for a variety of reasons. Someone who is deeply entrenched in writing and wants to pursue it as a career, blogging can be a great way to let some steam off. There are others who are great cooks and want to share their amazing recipes to the world so that they can enjoy too. Having a blog around cooking will generate a lot of interest from those who are interested in that hobby. Then there are others who want to promote their educational content or a business owner who wants to get more traffic – as you can understand, there are thousands of reasons why one would want to blog.

But is it that simple? Let’s find out.

  1. Starting off: First, don’t think how easy or difficult blogging is. Because the more you think, the more you would want to put it off.   1. Publish quality content: You know what drives huge amount of traffic to a website – quality posts and articles. If you are a budding and an upcoming entrepreneur and want the world to sit up and take notice of your existence online, then pay heed to quality content that answers what the public wants. Everybody has some problem for which they are searching answers for, and if your blog posts addresses those concerns, you have a great blog post on hand.

 

  1. Be consistent: This is something that a lot of bloggers and website owners fail at. While it is a good thing that you have your blog published but it is equally important to keep it updated every now and then with good quality content. Your content is your traffic-lane. If you publish a content after every 2 months, no search engine is going to favour your site above others. Thus, you should strive to have at least a couple of well researched posts and articles every 2 weeks or so. Of course, the more the better. But being consistent at it is going to take you to places. It is imperative that your blogging journey remains at a regular pace throughout.

 

  1. Drive traffic: While it is one thing to have a blog, it is not entirely true that it will instantly attract online traffic. There is way too much competition out there and it will be a tough task to get people coming to your website just because it exists. You will have to put in a lot of work towards getting traffic – be it SEO, using PPC services or digital advertising (also called social media advertising).

 

a) SEO: Search engine optimization is a technique of ranking your website higher in the search results page of Google, Bing and other search engines. There’s a lot of variable involved and your website needs to be thoroughly optimized to have any chance of ranking in the top coveted spots on search results. While it is a long drawn process and there’s a lot of factors involved such as on-page SEO, off-page SEO and technical SEO, but it is worth taking the efforts as the results can be very rewarding.

 

b) PPC advertising: Pay per click or PPC as it is commonly called, can be a great way of driving a lot of interested visitors to your website. It is highly unlike SEO (which can take months to give you some results) in that it will open up the channel to your website or blog almost immediately. In this particular form of advertising, people will be shown your ad based on certain keyword they type in the search results. If they happen to click on your advertisement, they will be taken to your website/blog and you will be charged for that particular click (thus the name: pay per click)

 

c) Social media advertising: Every business owner should make use of social media advertising platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat etc., depending on the kind of business they have. A lot of customers are on these social media channels and if you show your ad to these people, they will be frequenting your website should they be interested in what you have to offer. Businesses are leveraging the power of social media like crazy and there is no reason why you should not.
