Four Ways to Protect Your Children from Cancer
Today an estimated 700,000 people in the US are suffering from a primary brain tumor of which 69.1% are benign and 30.19%are malignant. Of these 28,000 children 0-19 years old are estimated to have a brain tumor. This is according to the Natural Brain Tumor Society (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Brain_Tumor_Society.
As parents, we want to shield and protect kids from the toxins and other causes of these tumors.
In addition to genetic issues, tumor development may be influenced by the following:
Cell Phones. Although not scientifically proven, cellphones may contribute to a risk of brain cancer.
Cellphones emit a type of radiation known as Radio Frequency-Electromagnetic Radiation (RF-EMR), also known as microwave radiation. A 2010 study noted that “in general and on average, children suffer a higher exposure of their brain regions than adults.”
This is due to a child’s smaller head, yet they receive the same amount of radiation as an adult.
People under the age of 20 who use cell phones are at a much higher risk due to a thinner skull and bones.
Kids using these phones also have a higher rate of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD).
Some precautionary tips:
- Turn airplane mode on when giving a phone to a child.
- Turn off wireless networks and devices when not in use.
- Turn off Wi-Fi router at bedtime.
- Use a speaker phone or earpiece.
Dental X-rays. This is a critical factor contributing to brain tumor development in kids. Dental X-rays should be minimized or avoided in young children.
Hot dogs. Hot dogs can increase brain cancer risk in children especially. Hot dogs contain nitrates/nitrates as preservatives which when cooked, can form carcinogenic compounds.
One 7 year study evaluated children from birth to age 10. Those who ate more than 12 hot dogs per month have a 9 times higher risk of developing leukemia. Children who ate hot dogs one or more times a week also had a higher risk for brain cancer. (Cancers Causes and Control 5 141—8, 1994.
Schools and sports events tend to have concession stands that sell hot dogs and soda. Avoid these foods. We recommend showing this article to school staff to try to make a difference in the safety of our kids.
Microwaving Plastics. It is wise to never microwave plastics. There are chemicals that can leach into the foods. Some of these chemicals are associated with brain cancer and liver cancer. It is also recommended to severely limit microwave use in the home.
