According to the latest survey, Hong Kong is the most spectacular and most expensive city for expats. In fact, six Asian cities are in the top cities in the world. Tokyo is second, Singapore is fourth, Seoul is fifth, Shanghai is seven, and Beijing is ninth.
There are two European cities Zurich and Bern, which are in the top 10 list. Africa is not behind as Luanda, Angola, Ndjamena, and chad are on the top list as well.
There is no U.S. cities are in the top list and previously New York was on number ninth. The reason behind is the powerful economy from Europe which causing European cities to rise in the top ranking list according to Mercer.
According to the survey, which was conducted in March 2018, mentioned New York City (No. 13 on the list) based on comparing cities. Prices comparison was based on the U.S, dollar. There was a total of 375 cities worldwide included but Mercer only ranked 209 of them. Mercer compared and measured more than 200 items comparative cost such as food, location, house, transportation, clothing, and entertainment.
There is the cheapest city on the list, which is Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
